RE: Dan Brown: The Lost Symbol

The best in the Langdon series so far in my opinion

The twists at the end were great.

RE: Stephenie Meyer: The Twilight saga collection

I enjoy the books and have read all 5 a bit more than a few times

The movie was AWFUL and I will watch New Moon but don't have high hopes.

The books were decent good story but not worth all the hype at all. Meyers is not the greatest writer in the world and I defiantly prefer other vampire series over this one

RE: Stephenie Meyer: The Twilight saga collection

I've got to admit that I haven't read the books. Did see the movie and couldn't for the life of me see what all the fuss is about.

Now I do know how much better books are from the movies made from them but the basic story between Edward and Bella has to be similar seeing as it is what carries the story.

But doesn't anyone else see what I see when I watched the movie? A vampire, that while looking like a young man, is in reality close on 100 years old, chasing a 16 year old girl. Now put that in terms of say an 80 year old man diddling with a 16 year old girl. Hmm, now see, there is a very particular term for that sort of thing and it usually involves a prison sentence and a great deal of social castigation and condemnation.

Edward is a paedophile. What difference does it make that he's a vampire? He is still old enough to be Bella's great grandfather. If Bella had been 10 years older, with an adult and much more mature perspective and attitude then different matter. She would have been making rational choices in being with someone that much older than herself. We all know what teenage hormones are like and rational doesn't even come close to entering the equation. Anyone of Edward's advance age would be well aware of this.

Oh, and Bella doesn't get off either. The term spoilt brat comes to mind.

RE: Dan Brown: Angels and Demons

I've read the books and while I enjoyed them I wouldn't class Dan Brown as a great writer. He is a formula writer at best. He is just lucky that he hit on the right formula to make himself millions. The plots in his books are nearly identical to each other. Read one and you've practically read them all.

An enjoyable read, yes, but hardly world shaking. If it wasn't for certain claims he made at the beginning of The Da Vinci Code he would still be wallowing in the sea of mediocrity and would be a relative unknown in the literacy world.

RE: Charlaine Harris: Sookie Stackhouse Series

Yes, the characters....... Hmm. lol. I had to do more than just a double take when Tara came on screen! Really, WTF? Why the need to change her from white to black? Her personality is nothing like the books either.

Sookie is suppose to be stacked and well.. no amount of push up bras with padding will ever make Anna Paquin that well endowed. Plus I keep wanting to take her to the dentist to get that gap between her front teeth fixed.

Bill and Eric just fall flat, neither is convincing in their role. Actually, Bill leaves me cringing!

Jason, another bit character in the books is now more centre stage. Ryan Kwanton has always been good to look at which is a plus. But why make him into a himbo? He isn't suppose to be an Einstein but he also isn't suppose to be quite so dirt stupid either.

Quinn is described as being very yummy. I am not looking forward to seeing who they choose for the role because I've no doubt he will be nothing like his description.

The books just give far more to their readers than the TV series will ever give to it's viewers. Which is a major shame.

Charlaine Harris: Sookie Stackhouse Series

actually that is very true and I agree with you completely.thumbs up

I have read her other books: Aurora Teagarden and Lily Bard series and they are really good as well. Same type of writing-stream of conscienceless-and same kind of action, non stop they are very good

True Blood in my opinion has ruined the series with the adaptation. If they were closer in the story line made through Harris it would be better even keeping the same actors. As far as the actors are concerned here's where I have a problem. Season 2 Eric cut his hair short but vampires hair would grow right back-this is why Bill has huge sideburns and he makes the comment about the full beard. Bill has stubble like he needs to shave-same concept. Sookie is supposed to be very well endowed--ummmm Anna Paquin is NOT well endowed. Tara is a side character in the books-AND WHITE

it's more the little things the show has done that have made it difficult to watch (although I still do) but it does seem like a totally new thing even though I have read the books the show is different.

I am curious as to whether they will show the Eric losing his memory basically the same because it is such a relevant part and I am curious to see who plays Quinn because the way Harris describes him is yummy

RE: Johnathon Littell: The Kindly Ones

I am half-way through the French version of this book. I came across it from a review article in the New York Times. To say the least, Johnathan Littell has an outrageous and wild imagination. The book is very dark. In fact, the darkness runs trough almost every page of the book. It is very well written though, but I think it has way too many details! When I am done with it, I don't think I'll ever read it again!

RE: Charlaine Harris: Sookie Stackhouse Series

I read the books way before True Blood came out and I had a hard time adjusting to so many changes, not just to the plot lines but to the characters themselves. I've got nothing against the actors but none of them fit the characters as described by Ms Harris.

The books are better than the series by a long shot, as is often the case. Books can give far more indepth descriptions of thoughts and feelings that actors {no matter how good} usually fail to project. Sookie's exploits draw you in from the start and keep you coming back for more. Wondering what will happen as she gets drawn further and further into the world of the supernatural.

Vampires are out of their coffins and the world is coming to terms with having something from myth and legend proven to be fact. With more surprises in store as the series unfolds, including the reason behind Sookie's telepathy.

Charlaine Harris: Sookie Stackhouse Series

After Bill and Sookie have a major fight in Dallas-they split uo. She goes on to the way her life was before Bill and he starts seeing someone else. When they see each other out with "others" this is what ensues. A little taste as to why I love these books so muchdevil grin

'As I unlocked the front door Bill came out of the darkness. Without a word, he grabbed my arm and turned me toward him, and then he kissed me. In a minute we were pressed against the door with his body moving rhythmically against mine. I reached one hand behind myself to fumble with the lock, and the key finally turned. We stumbled into the house, and he turned me to face the couch. I gripped it with my hands and, just as I imagined, he pulled down my pants, and then he was in me.
I made a hoarse noise I’d never heard come from my throat before. Bill was making noises equally as primitive. I didn’t think I could form a word. His hands were under my sweater, and my bra was in two pieces. He was relentless. I almost collapsed after the first time I came. “No,” he growled when I was flagging, and he kept pounding. Then he increased the pace until I was almost sobbing, and then my sweater tore, and his teeth found my shoulder. He made a deep, awful sound, and then, after long seconds, it was over. I was panting as if I’d run a mile, and he was shivering too. Without bothering to refasten his clothing, he turned me to face him, and he bent his head to my shoulder again to lick the little wound. When it stopped bleeding and begun healing, he took off everything I had on, very slowly. He cleaned me below; he kissed me above.'
