RE: George Orwell: Nineteen Eighty-four

Yeah, a pretty amazing book really. The movie is not too bad either, though not for those with a weak stomach.

RE: Muhammad (SAW): QURAN

THE HOLLY QURAN

THE HOLLY QURAN IS THE REVELATION(WORD OF GOD)THROUGH PROPHET MOHAMMED-(PEACE BE UPON HIM)-TO ALL MANKIND,JUST SAME LIKE THE ENJIL OF PROPHET ISSA THE SON OF MARRIUM,SABUR OF PROPHET DAVID,AND THE TOWRAT OF PROPHET MOSESS-(PEACE BE UPON THEM ALL)

THE HOLLY QURAN WASNT SAID OR WROTE BY THE PROPHET-P.B.U.H. AS YOU MENTIONED IN YOUR WRITING.

RE: Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl

when i first read this book i couldnt put it down it was so good. anne frank did a great job at telling her life back then and how hard it was to keep in hiding for long. i think everyone should read the book at least once and see how they like the book for themself

RE: J.R.R. Tolkien: The Hobbit

I remember this book - because my little (then) son had out-read all the childrens books in the library and demanded some MORE intense reading, so I took this out for him - he was "under-aged" for the "adult" section books!

And this led to his life-long interest in the "other" worlds that inhabit this earth ... which lead (it seems?) to his writing his own book - (listed here in the Books section of CS -"They call me Nightwalker") ... where he revels in his characters.

RE: J.R.R. Tolkien: The Hobbit

My first book that I read from cover to cover! I was in High school and not into book and more into sports and girls. But one time my friend Nathan had pained a mural inside the school's library so I went to check it out. While I was in there (first time ever) I decided to look around and the tittle of this this book caught my attention: The master of Fantasy and it was J.R.R Tolkien biography. I went trough it and at the end it had all the work he had done. On top it was "The Hobbit" so in that same instant I went and look for it. Found it but was not to happy to see that it was thick and bulky. I still got it and that was the start of an amazing adventure!!

I have enjoyed all Raymond Khoury's books. He is a good author. It's a pity he has written so few books.

RE: J.R.R. Tolkien: The Hobbit

J.R.R. Tolkein is the greatest writer of fantasy fiction ever. With the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy book and movie, and with the forthcoming "The Hobbit" movie coming out someday soon drawn directly from the book, I'm really lloking forward to it all. I read the Hobbit series of books when I was in my early teens, and loved exery moment of the story lines. For escapist fiction, Tolkein, and Anne McCaffery cannot be beat.

John Man: Genghis Khan

""""Ok...its not entirely accurate to go with the western version of this individual. """"" okok this book may not be ENTIRELY accurate, but say if he killed 20million,which is a conservative estimate,,then a couple of million either way still makes him a murdering sod....Much in the same vain as Stalin,Hitler,Mao and the rest..

RE: John Man: Genghis Khan

Ok...its not entirely accurate to go with the western version of this individual.

Its the oldest fallacy to 'demonize' an individual, because its convenient or worse politically correct and trendy to do so.
People forget ....those were different times, a different age !

How easy it is for the west to 'idolise' even 'iconize' or applaud good over evil, gunfighter , wild west stories....and demonize wars/conflicts fought for survival and security.

Obviously the vanquished will limit their saga to the atrocities suffered...will they ever sincerely detail...why they were attacked..ever?

Does not the world have innumerable accounts of countries from the west employing the excuse of 'discovery' , 'god's will' to loot and pillage, occupy and rule peaceful nations?

Think about both sides before you post a response. Do not be surprised at all if you find the trigger for human behaviour buried at a depth not always foraged !

For Example..how many know that:
1. System of currency denominations was introduced by Genghis Khan.
2. Political & administrative hierarchy most countries employ as a rule today was invented by Genghis Khan. This was necessary to bring together warring tribes to create and unite them.

And ... i know this from the History Channel & BBC !!!
So...as the popular saying goes....It aint all what you see thats really true...
Need we refer to Bush and WMD's to highlight how wrong a country can get it !!!
Cheers

RE: Joseph Campbell: The Power of Myth

I've loved all of Campbell's work, though I think this is my least favorite.
Anyone who enjoyed this one should check out The Hero with a Thousand Faces. In my opinion Hero was his magnum opus. When I discovered that one, I read it five times in a row. I still needed Jung to really understand the true power of myth.
